Tony Award-winning play staged at Majestic Theater

WEST SPRINGFIELD - "The 39 Steps," an acclaimed comedy/mystery based on the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock, is being staged at the Majestic Theater through May 20.
Winner of both Tony and Drama Desk Awards, the play is inspired by classic 1940s films, juicy spy novels and a bit of Monty Python's Flying Circus. It's a fast-paced whodunit that features more than 150 characters played by four actors. "The 39 Steps" recently concluded a smash-hit run in New York and is poised to become a popular show at regional theaters across the country.
The play is directed by Zoya Kachadurian, who also directed "King O' The Moon," "Stones in His Pockets," "The Ride" and "The Graduate" at the Majestic. Producing Director is Danny Eaton, and cast members include David Mason ("It's a Wonderful Life," "Lumberjacks in Love"), Scott Severence, Richard Vaden and Kathy McCafferty.
Rachel Putnam is production stage manager, Alma Negro is stage manager, the set designer is Andy Stuart and Bobbie Blackwood will handle costume design. Dan Rist is light designer and sound designer is Elizabeth Nielsen.
"The 39 Steps" marks the final play in the Majestic's 2011-2012 Season. Eaton will soon announce the 2012-2013 lineup and subscriptions will become available. The upcoming summer will offer traditional Majestic programs, including the Majestic Children's Theater, Open Mic Night and a full roster of musical performances, all to be announced soon.
Tickets for "The 39 Steps" are between $21 and $28 and are now available by calling the box office at 747-7797 or visiting during box office hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
